👋🏼 hi I’m Abby. I was born 12 weeks early weighing in at 1.2kgs and literally wrapped in bubble wrap to keep me warm. Since day 1, I have done things on my own terms with my determination and warrior spirit. I’m 8 years old and this is my 5th Walk for Prems to help early babies and their families. My due date was leap day 29 February 2016 and I leapt ahead to be born in December 2015. Oh how I surprised my parents with a dramatic entrance into the world. I’m very grateful I had a team of super heroes saving my life and my mum. Thank you to the incredible, Dr Fiona Brownfoot and Prof Michael Permezel!

After spending 53 days across two hospitals, I finally got to go home to be with my family. And it didn’t stop after leaving the hospital with many follow up specialist appointments to make sure I was growing and developing. After two years of appointments, to check my hips, the hole in my heart healed and my hearing continued to develop, I was cleared of specialist appointments and deemed a healthy baby born early. We know that is not the case for many families of early babies and hope walking will help spread awareness and resources.

Donations to Life’s Little Treasures Foundation provides much needed programs and services to families doing it tough, like mine. This includes items such as our Precious Prem Packs and guide books for families in hospital. Learning about how you can support your baby born early is a huge task on parents under an enormous amount of stress.
